Recent drops like… ‘Year of Gear’ and ‘SHH’ have solidified him as one of dancehall’s biggest game-changers.” – Jon Powell, REVOLT
“The biggest dancehall smash of 2021 [was] Intence’s Yahoo Boyz.” – Jody Rosen, NYTimes
Another year, another January 1st release from Dancehall disruptor Intence. This time around, he sets the tone with a bittersweet celebration on “Voyage (Old Years).” The song and video are out now via VP Records. Listen HERE.
Intence sounds as defiant as ever on his new song, produced by Nuh Brakes Recordz and composed by Genetic Records andKulcha. Over a somber piano beat, he reflects on his journey, condemning a system that perpetuates poverty while stressing faith and hard work as his way out. The music video, directed by Shane Creative, finds the deejay delivering his message of resilience within the zinc-fenced corridors of Spanish Town, Jamaica. Watch HERE.
The new song struck a chord with listeners in his native Jamaica, quickly climbing into the top three spots on the island’s YouTube trending chart. It also follows a breakout year for the artist who earned his biggest hit to date with “SHH,” which he followed up quickly with “Like U,” a Dancehall favorite across the Caribbean. Amid this momentum, Jon Powell of Revolt praised him as “one of dancehall’s biggest game-changers.” His debut album, VOYAGE, is set for release later this year.
“Voyage (Old Years)” marks the seventh consecutive single Intence has released to kick off a new year. He began with “Be Careful” in 2019 and has kept the annual tradition alive with “CRITICS” (2020),“New Year” (2021), “New Gear” (2022), “DEEDS” (2023), and “Year of Gear” (2024).
“Voyage (Old Years)” is now available everywhere digitally.
